Got questions about our products, services, or how we can help secure your property? Below you'll find answers to the most common questions we receive from trade customers, facilities managers, property owners, and homeowners alike.
About Keytrak
Who is Keytrak and how long have you been in business?
Keytrak is a specialist security distributor and locksmith company based in Widnes, Cheshire, with over 40 years of experience in the industry. We serve both residential and commercial customers across the North West and the wider UK, with additional offices in Warrington, Altrincham, Liverpool, and Manchester. We are a Company Member of the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) and hold ISO 9001 accreditation.
What brands do you stock?
We carry a wide portfolio of trusted security brands including Abloy, Squire, CISA, ABUS, EVVA, Paxton, Union, ERA, Yale, Ultion, SimonsVoss, and EVVA AirKey, among others. As an ASSA ABLOY main agent and Paxton Access main agent, we hold large stock levels and can supply specialist products that many general retailers cannot.
Can I visit your premises or do you only sell online?
You can do both. We operate a physical trade counter at Unit 1, Heron Business Park, Tanhouse Lane, Widnes, WA8 0SW. You're welcome to visit in person for advice or to collect products. We also sell online through keytrak4security.co.uk, with same-day shipping available on orders placed before 2pm.
Products & Ordering
What types of security products do you supply?
Our range covers padlocks (including specialist container padlocks), door locks, anti-snap euro cylinders, electric locks, electronic cylinders, access control systems, CCTV, door entry and intercom systems, intruder alarms, safes, automatic doors, and automatic gates. We cater to everything from a single replacement door lock to a full commercial access control installation.
What are your shipping options and how quickly will my order arrive?
Orders placed before 2pm on a working day are shipped the same day. We hold large stock levels across our core product lines, so most items are available for immediate dispatch. Delivery timescales depend on the courier service selected at checkout, but UK mainland orders typically arrive within one to two working days.
What does "keyed alike" and "master keyed" mean, and can you set this up for me?
Keyed alike means multiple locks are set to open with the same key, which is ideal if you want one key for several padlocks or doors. Master keyed means individual locks each have their own unique key, but a single master key can open all of them. We offer both options across our padlock and cylinder ranges. Just contact us with your requirements and we'll configure the system for you.
What is your key registration service?
When you purchase locks on a restricted key section from us, we register your key profile to your account. This means only you (or someone you authorise) can order additional matching keys or locks in the future. It's a simple but effective way to maintain long-term key control, and it's especially popular with facilities managers and property portfolio owners.
Specialist Products
Which container padlocks do you recommend for shipping and logistics?
We specialise in container security and stock leading options including the CISA container padlock range and the Squire WS75. Both are available master-keyed and on restricted key sections, which is essential for logistics operators managing multiple containers. If you need advice on the right padlock for your setup, our team can help you choose based on your specific security and access requirements.
What is the difference between a fail-secure and a fail-safe electric lock?
A fail-secure lock remains locked when power is cut, making it suitable for fire-rated doors and high-security areas where the door must stay locked during a power failure. A fail-safe lock unlocks when power is interrupted, allowing free egress in an emergency. Choosing the right type depends on the door's function and fire safety requirements. We stock both configurations, including the Abloy EL560 and Abloy EL46, and can advise on the correct specification for your project.
What are anti-snap euro cylinders and why should I consider them?
Anti-snap cylinders are designed with a sacrificial front section. If an intruder attempts to snap the cylinder (a common forced entry method), the front breaks away but a hardened middle section remains in place, keeping the door secure. With 76% of domestic burglaries involving entry through an exterior door, upgrading to an anti-snap cylinder is one of the most practical steps you can take. We stock anti-snap options from brands like Ultion and EVVA.
Installation & Locksmith Services
Do you offer on-site installation services?
Yes. Our engineers install electric locks, access control systems, intercoms, CCTV, automatic doors, automatic gates, and master key systems across the North West. We also carry out locksmith callouts for lock replacements, repairs, and upgrades. All our MLA-approved locksmiths are fully vetted and inspected, and recommended by UK Police Forces and Neighbourhood Watch.
Do you provide emergency locksmith services?
We offer a 24/7 emergency mobile locksmith service covering Widnes, Runcorn, Warrington, Manchester, Liverpool, and surrounding areas. For local customers, our engineers can typically arrive in under an hour. Whether you're locked out, dealing with a break-in, or need an urgent lock replacement, call us and we'll get someone to you as quickly as possible.
Can you install or upgrade a master key system for my building?
Absolutely. We design, supply, and install master key systems for student accommodation, care homes, hotels, residential blocks, and commercial properties. If you already have a master key system in place, we can audit it and recommend improvements or a full replacement. Our key registration service ensures ongoing control of your key hierarchy long after the initial installation.
Security Advice
Do I need BS3621-approved locks for my home insurance?
Many home insurance policies require British Standard BS3621-approved locks on all external doors. If your locks don't meet this standard, your insurer may refuse a claim following a break-in. We recommend checking your policy wording and contacting us if you're unsure whether your current locks comply. We stock a wide range of BS3621-approved locks and can fit them for you if you're in the North West.
I'm a landlord or Airbnb host. What lock solutions do you offer for rental properties?
We supply smart locks and electronic cylinders (such as the Abloy eCLIQ system and EVVA AirKey) that let you manage access remotely, issue time-limited digital keys, and eliminate the need to physically hand over keys between tenants or guests. With the Renters Reform Bill pushing minimum security standards, upgrading to a smart or electronic lock system helps you stay compliant while making property management far more practical. Get in touch and we'll recommend the right solution for your portfolio size and budget.
